Police: Mom let 12-year-old have sex

A Gastonia woman faces a court hearing this afternoon after being charged Monday with allowing someone to have sex with her 12-year-old daughter.
The woman, who is 30 years old, was charged with felony child abuse-sexual act. An arrest warrant in Gastonia says the woman allowed someone to have sex with her daughter last Friday. Police have not identified the person who had sex with the girl.
The mother was jailed Monday but released on $30,000 bond.

The Observer is not identifying the mother, because that also could help identify the 12-year-old in the case.
