Tractor-trailer full of cash overturns on I-85 ramp
Updated 1:05 p.m., 7/15/08A tractor-trailer, reportedly carrying pallets of cash, overturned this morning on the ramp from northbound Interstate 85 to northbound Interstate 77 in Charlotte.The ramp is expected to be closed until late this afternoon or this evening, probably during the evening commute.It could cause major traffic problems in the area.The truck overturned shortly before 11 a.m. Crews have been unable to lift the truck, and there are reports from the scene that specialized equipment will be needed. At last check, the N.C. Department of Transportation said it could be 5:30 p.m. or later before the wreckage is cleared and the ramp reopened.The driver suffered minor injuries in the wreck.Motorists who are northbound on I-85 from western Mecklenburg County or Gaston County and want to go north on I-77 toward the Lake Norman area should take the following detour:-- Take southbound I-77 from I-85.-- Get off at the LaSalle Street exit. Turn left at the top of the ramp and take LaSalle Street across the overpass to the northbound I-77 ramp.-- Get on northbound I-77 at that point.More details to come as they become available.
