A woman who was walking on the John Belk Freeway was struck and killed overnight.
Police say the driver involved in the collision drove away.
The incident happened about 4:45 a.m. on the westbound John Belk Freeway, near Bank of America Stadium. They are not sure why the woman was walking on the freeway, and reports from the scene indicate investigators do not have much information about the vehicle involved in the collision.
There are several reports that the victim was a 50-year-old woman.
